COMMUNITY NONPROFITS' FUNDING NEEDS PROGRAM

Nonprofits' Funding Needs Request Instructions
(please read before completing the application)

HOW ARE GRANT DECISIONS MADE?

Grant proposals from local nonprofits are initially
reviewed by the Foundation’s professional staff.  Our Grant Committee will then review the proposals and present them at a Community Nonprofits' Funding Needs meeting with donor advisors, community philanthropist, and representatives from Private Foundations.  Grant recommendations by donor advisors will be subject to approval by the Grant Committee at The Community Foundation.  Private Foundations and community philanthropists may support a grant request directly.  The Community Foundation encourages its donor-advisors and other area philanthropists to give.  Regretfully, we do not have funds earmarked for this process.

WHAT ORGANIZATIONS ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE GRANTS?

Grants are made to tax-exempt public charities under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and to government agencies. Grants are limited to projects in the
Harrisonburg or Rockingham County area.  Grants are made without regard to factors of gender, race, religion, national origin, or sexual orientation.

SIZE OF GRANTS
Generally, grants will range from $250 to $50,000.  Occasionally grants are awarded in excess of $50,000.

WHAT IS THE GRANT APPLICATION TIMELINE?

The Foundation’s Grants Committee meets twice a year.  Generally, proposal deadlines will be around March 1st and September 1st of each year.  An organization may not apply for a grant more than once in a calendar year.  Grant proposals not funded in the first cycle of a year will be included in the second cycle meeting, no further application required.
